Homes Burn In Wildfire Near Tehachapi
30-40 Structures Destroyed

TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to tour the destruction of the West fire Wednesday afternoon as firefighters struggle to contain the blaze that has destroyed at least 30 homes.The fire has burned 1,400 acres and is 25 percent contained, with about 800 fire personnel on-scene to fight the flames near Old West Ranch.The fire erupted at about 3 p.m. Tuesday and quickly grew near Blackburn Canyon.
Changing winds made fighting the blaze difficult, Anthony Romero, with the Kern County Fire department, said.Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road is closed from Highline Road to Cameron Road. Oak Creek Road is also closed from the cement plant to Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road.A shelter for displaced residents has been set up by the American Red Cross at th old Jacobsen Jr. High School on 126 Snyder in Tehachapi.A shelter for residents' horses and large animals has been provided at Spit Creek Ranch in Cummings Valley.
