After Two ATV Accidents, Safety Explored

All terrain vehicles are supposed to be all fun and games, but two recent accidents have claimed the lives of two young girls.

ATVs are meant for riders to feel the thrill of off-roading, but this past week Alene Maria Ochoa, 12, was killed in an ATV accident when she fell off and hit her head.

Ochoa was not wearing a helmet, and CHP said parents should ensure their kids are adequately protected.

Children as young as six are allowed to drive an ATV and they do not need a license or helmet. The only requirement is that they drive it with a 50cc motor.

According to police, this requirement is not enforced.

The Bakersfield Police Department said that anything goes on private property.

They stressed that on public property, children and adults must wear helmets.
