Musical Tribute To Slim The Drifter At Fishlips
Slim The Drifter’s Passing Sparks Bakersfield Music Scene Tribute
A special musical tribute will be held Wednesday, June 27, for Scott Sturtevant, a local country singer who lived up to his music persona, Slim the Drifter.Sturtevant died May 25 in northern Nevada, and was a longstanding member of the Bakersfield music scene, dating back to the 1970s.In early 1981, Sturtevant brought hardcore punk music to Bakersfield from the L.A. and Orange County hardcore scene. During the 1980s, he was in alternative bands 97 Tears, Kissing Jane, and the Rainmakers. His impact was felt much stronger in the 1990s when Sturtevant changed musical genres and took on the solo act of Slim the Drifter, making crossover country and alternative music.
Slim the Drifter’s daily theme of hard living became the topic of much of his underground alt country music.His final album, “The Guilty Ten” by Slim the Drifter Trio was released in 2006, and was pure country. The album marked his musical transformation that went from punk to country and spanned four decades.The Slim the Drifter Memorial Tribute Show will be held at 7 p.m. at Fishlips, 517 18th St. The tribute features: Brad Coats, DJ Drifters - Dave W & Jean E, Black Dog, Chuck Seaton, Billy Russell, Glenda Robles, 5th Wheel, Eddie Ruff, Monty & Tanner Byrom and much more.Scott Sturtevant, A.K.A., Slim the Drifter was 46 when he died.
