UPDATED: 10:52 am PDT June 29, 2007

Bakersfield City fire crews had their hands full with an early morning fire outside of the Deja Vu nightclub.

Firefighters arrived at the Deja Vu club on N. Chester Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. to reports of a hay truck on fire. Firefighters believe the driver parked the truck next to the building before going inside, but somehow the load of hay caught fire. Club patrons and employees were forced to evacuate.

After knocking down flames, fire crews spent several hours clearing hay from outside the building with a skiploader.

The building sustained minor damage to the exterior and lighting along the side of the club. The hay truck was a total loss. The fire did not extend into the building.

Damage to the truck is estimated at about 20-thousand dollars. There's no word on damage estimates to the club.
