Snake Eater May Face Felony Charge

Animal Control To Recommend Charges

The Tehachapi man who skinned and ate a live snake during an audition for "Survivor" in July could face felony charges.

Tammy Davis, Bakersfield Animal Control supervisor, completed her investigation Tuesday. She will send her case to Kern County Assistant District Attorney Michael Yraceburn and recommend that 48-year-old Brent Scheibel be charged with a felony count of animal cruelty.

During Davis' investigation, she talked to several people, including the snake eater. Scheibel exclusively told ABC 23 the snake was dead during the audition.

The video appears to show that the snake was alive.

Davis had no comment.

It's up to the District Attorney, according to Bakersfield Police detective Mary Degeare

If convicted, Scheibel faces a fine that will not exceed $20,000 and possible jail time.
