BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bakersfield band Korn’s new album debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s top 200 music chart this week.

Korn’s eighth studio release is untitled but unofficially dubbed by Korn fans as “8.”

The album has already sold 123,000 copies, while a video on youtube.com for the band's song “Evolution” already has nearly 230,000 views.

For fans who wonder if nu-metal is dying, the popularity of their new untitled album should dispel rumors that Korn is one of the failing bands in the genre of rock music that they spearheaded.

The album’s success also may indicate that Korn is not suffering from any drop in fans from the release of the Brian “Head” Welch book, “Save Me From Myself,” which discusses some of the band member’s past drug use (Read an interview with Welch)

Welch's book reached No. 15 on the New York Times best-seller list and as of Thursday was ranked at No. 17.

Korn will perform at Bakersfield’s Rabobank Arena on Aug. 29 with Evanescence.
