BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Firefighters continue to struggle with the Zaca wildfire, which is sending columns of smoke and ash over the central valley. The Zaca fire has now burned more than 105,000 acres and remains only about 58 percent contained.Nearly 900,000 acres of land have been forced closed, including a stretch of road from Highway 166, east of Highway 33, and south of the Mil Potrero Highway.
There are 2,888 fire personnel battling the blaze along with 10 air tankers, 124 engines, 25 bulldozers and 21 helicopters.Officials say 483 homes are threatened by the fire.Because of ash clouds drifting from the fire, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District issued a general health warning for Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings, Tulare and Kern County, along with the potential to affect Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.Fire crews now say the blaze is headed toward the town of New Cuyama.Click for more info from state website.
