Cooling Centers Open Around Kern County

Kern County residents, especially the elderly, are encouraged to use cooling centers to beat the heat. The following is a list of cooling centers in Kern County, and their status for Friday:

San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys Centers:

Delano Veterans Building, 1025 Garces Highway, Delano -- OPEN

East Bakersfield Veterans Building, 2101 Ridge Road, Bakersfield -- OPEN

East Niles Senior Center, 6601 East Niles St., Bakersfield -- OPEN

Kern River Valley Senior Center/Veterans Building, 6405 Lake Isabella Blvd., Lake Isabella -- OPEN

Lamont Senior Center, 10300 San Diego St., Lamont -- OPEN

Martin Luther King Community Center, 1000 S. Owens St., Bakersfield -- OPEN

North of the River Veterans Building, 400 West Norris Road, Bakersfield -- OPEN

Ridgecrest Senior Center, 125 S. Warner St., Ridgecrest -- CLOSED

Temperatures required to open County Cooling Centers are 105 degrees in the San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys, 95 degrees in Frazier Park and Tehachapi, and 108 in Desert areas.
