A 7-year-old girl has died after police said she was crushed and killed by the family’s television.

The girl died Saturday morning at a home on Lake Street in east Bakersfield.

Aaliyah Nutt was sleeping on the floor in front of the TV in her east Bakersfield when her 5-year-old brother tried to plug in a DVD player.

The little boy accidentally knocked over the 30-inch TV, which fell off a dresser and landed on the sleeping girl.

The mother of the children, Latasha Carter, was reportedly sleeping in the same room when the accident happened.

A witness said the little girl died in her mother’s arms, though she was rushed to Kern Medical Center with major head injuries.

Neighbor Nanita Camrilla said the mother held onto the injured child after the accident, “She was screaming for her, telling her, ‘Don't you leave me!’"

The girl’s sister said, “I used to always tell her that I would take her to the store, and I never got to take her. So that really hurt my feelings.”
