Fans of Indiana Jones stopped for a photo-op in Fresno, where a portion of the latest installment of Indiana Jones was filmed.

ABC30 reported that portions of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” were filmed at two locations in the Fresno area.

Buildings at the Chandler Airport, located near grape vineyards, were repainted to look like an airport in Mexico City, circa 1957. One building read, AEROPUERTO INTERNACIONAL DE CIUDAD DE MEXICO.

An airport water tower was painted to resemble an airport in Branford, Conn.

Movie props also arrived, including a lone DC-3 plane with the words “Pan America” painted on its side, and vintage vehicles including cars, trucks and an old bus.

About 40 people arrived in the valley to begin set-up for the film nearly a week ago. More than 200 people were expected to take part in the filming, which included big-name actors, and directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

ABC30 reported that representatives of one of Hollywood’s hottest productions were tight-lipped about the latest Indiana Jones project, although they said to expect special effects pyrotechnics and wind machines.

Filming at Chandler Airport took place on Thursday.

The Fresno Bee reported that George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford were all at the Chandler Airport on Thursday. The newspaper said fans waited outside of a fence. Using binoculars, they saw the trademark hat and jacket on an actor who got in and out of a bi-plane.

Fans, including farmers, local theater actors and a 91-year-old great-grandmother, also claimed Harrison Ford was seen smoking a cigar with George Lucas.

One fan had a card that let him in the security gate. He took a Fresno Bee reporter on a whirlwind tour where they stopped to look at some of the vintage cars and planes used in the filming. Another reporter admitted turning into a squealing teenager during the film shoot.

According to the Fresno Bee, a movie official said the Chandler Airport filming was completed Thursday. The Merced Sun-Star reported that an additional shoot at Eagle Field, Dos Palos was completely closed off. Residents in the town of 5,000 said that Eagle Field has an old airplane hangar that would make a perfect backdrop for the film. Production Supervisor Mike Fantasia confirmed and said it was the World War Two era airfield that brought filmmakers to the location.

Eagle Field was built in 1942 as a flight school to help the War Department's need for fighter pilots.

Mike Seay, who writes the Fresnan blog missed Thursday's filming. In an interview with ABC23's Nick Belardes, Seay said, "I'm pretty upset. It's almost as upsetting as when Lucas changed 'Star Wars' to Greedo shooting first."

Seay did have something to smile about. He was happy that Fresno moved deeper into movie-making history. "It will be fun for us Fresno nerds when we're in the theater watching the film, knowing that's our airport," he said. "It gives us something else on our list along with the Fresno miniseries with Carol Burnett, and Mousehunt was filmed here."
