Gay Community Protests Same-Sex Marriage Act Veto

POSTED: 10:02 am PDT October 15, 2007
UPDATED: 10:30 am PDT October 15, 2007

Members of Bakersfield's gay community will protest the veto of a same-sex marriage act.

The rally comes on the heels of the veto of Assembly Bill 43.

If approved, the bill would have extended marriage rights to same-sex couples.

It's the second time Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed the same bill.

The governor said Proposition 22, approved by voters in 2000, defines that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid in California.

Monday's rally starts at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Chester and Truxtun avenues.
