BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Mill Creek Project displaces homeless while also developing Bakersfield Vision2020 plan for downtown growth.By 10 a.m. Monday homeless had all vacated Central Park to make way for development to the Mill Creek area of the park.A local fencing company put up fence posts last week surrounding Central Park.

It’s unknown if the homeless will return before fencing is completed.According to a Bakersfield city press release, Central Park will be closed for six months as part of the first phase of the Mill Creek Linear Park Project.Within the creek area, 1.5 miles of the Kern Island canal will be transformed into a natural creek with a walking and bike path lined with public art, street furniture, lighting, exercise/climbing stations, decorative fencing and landscaping.Related Article: Were Homeless Asked To Leave Central Park?There will also be a new pond at Central Park along with a new Pedestrian Plaza at the 17th and R streets.According to the city Web site, Mill Creek development is part of Bakersfield’s Vision 2020 plan in relation to downtown rejuvenation to make the city architecturally pleasing, which includes business, housing and park redevelopment.A federal courthouse is also slated for development in the area.Recently, homeless said they were being ticketed and asked to leave Central Park. Bakersfield Police said they never asked homeless to leave the area.
