BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bakersfield's proposed water park may have to make a splash somewhere else after outcry from residents.North of the River Parks District has been considering building a water park off Rosedale Highway near Old Farm Road.Residents of the area were against the location. Now developers are looking into another area for the water park.
The new proposed location is at Coffee Road at Riverlakes Drive, just southeast of Centennial High School. The board for North of the River will decide if the new location is appropriate.Tuesday night's meeting was open to the public for their views on the proposed location. Not everyone in attendance agreed to the new location.“My feeling is they want to put it next to a school,” said Dr. Marshall Lewis. “Should be in the center of town.”“Riverlakes is closer to our demographic,” said Joshua Hunter from Clearwater Development.District officials said the water park would add more than just a family activity. It would also bring about 400 jobs.If all goes well, Bakersfield could see a water park opening by summer of 2009.
