BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- There was spectacular and scary sight in east Bakersfield Monday night as flames erupted from a scrap metal yard.

A fire broke out at Golden State Metals just before 8 p.m.

Flames reached upwards of 30 feet as old cars and appliances caught fire, Kern County firefighters said.

Thanks to quick-thinking employees and a helping hand from city crews, it took about an hour for firefighters to beat back the flames.

No buildings were damaged in the fire.

There's still no known cause and damage estimates are still pending.
