After forensic studies, the Kern County Coroner has determined that Russian swimmer Alexy Belyy, 26, died from heart disease and hardening of the arteries.

The coroner determined Belyy’s condition as hyper-trophic and artero-sclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Belyy collapsed after a swim practice in January.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, most sudden deaths in young athletes are due to heart disease.
