A local filmmaker and Korean War veteran is now running for mayor.

Joseph Caporali moved to Bakersfield last year to make a movie. But then he said he met the woman of his dreams and got married. He said in the last year he’s also seen a lot of decorated military veterans struggling to live with health and financial issues. He said he feels the community should be rallying together to help veterans.

Caporali also said a mayor should be approachable and people should feel comfortable with coming to him with concerns. “Like Buck Owens said, walk the streets of Bakersfield. I’m going to walk the streets of Bakersfield, meet the people, know the people,” Caporali said.

Though he said veterans issues are a major issue in his race, Caporali said his next priority is improving air quality.

Meet another mayoral candidate: Tattoo Shop Owner, Marc Deleon.
