BAKERSFIELD -- Dozens of people have held vigil in front of a Bakersfield abortion clinic praying for an end to the practice.

The "40 Days For Life" campaign concluded Sunday with hundreds of demonstrators nationwide praying and fasting in front of abortion clinics across the country.

The group's local efforts helped convince a doctor to surrender his license to perform abortions and 30 women to change their minds about having the procedure, according to Tim Palmquist, local coordinator for the campaign.
