A Tehachapi soldier injured in an IED attack in Iraq is back on U.S. soil.

Army Specialist Matthew McCool's stepfather, Brian Wilcox, said McCool was moved to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Wilcox said McCool arrived in the nation's capital last night and both he and his wife will leave for Washington, D.C. Monday to see him.

McCool was injured last week when his Humvee was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

McCool told family members that all he remembers about the attack was being pulled out of the Humvee.

He also said he has a continuous headache, feels like he has the flu and is weak.

Doctors said there appears to be no neurological damage.

Wilcox said community support has been overwhelming, especially from the American Legion in Tehachapi.
