The Kern High School District has sanitized West High School after two students were sickened by a deadly strain of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus .

Bakersfield.com reports the precautionary measure comes following the death of West High junior Marissa Reyna and the hospitalization of Stephanie Venegas.

Both came down with the antibiotic-resistant staph infection.

Venegas remains at the hospital.

District officials don't believe the girls caught the infection at school.

The Kern High School District is sending home pamphlets on MRSA with students.

Those pamphlets are also available on the school's Web site.
