While the owner of a burned out van police said was involved in a hit-and-run crash was captured, riders remembered the 25-year-old Bakersfield man who was killed in the motorcycle crash over the weekend.

Dozens of people gathered at Beach Park Sunday night in honor of Jared Brown.

Brown was killed early Sunday morning on Ming Avenue when a minivan made a left turn in front of him.

Friends said he was a safe rider and was someone young riders looked up to.

Friend Chris Macomb said, “That's the thing about Jared. He was everybody's best friend. No one here would have a bad thing to say about him.”

50-year-old John Rodriguez was arrested by the Bakersfield Police Department in connection with the crash.

Police found the van on Mckee Road. It had been set on fire.

Rodriguez now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and failing to yield.
