Bronze Oil Workers Monument Planned
Plans To Unveil $500,000 Monument In 2010

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Organizers said a monument is a fitting tribute to the men and women who put their lives on the line in the Kern County oil fields.Plans were unveiled Tuesday night at the Petroleum Club for an oil workers monument.The monument will be built in Taft and is a life-sized model of a cable tool drilling rig made entirely of bronze.
Committee members said they need $500,000 to complete the project and hope to unveil it by 2010.
