BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Firefighters had to rescue a woman on Monday from the Kern River Canyon after she broke her leg on steep terrain.

Fire officials said she broke her leg swinging from a rope above the Kern River near China Gardens.

The woman was put onto a stretcher and raised into the helicopter.

She was then taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital.
