CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. -- More than a month after Jamesha Terry's uncle was arrested in connection with her murder, the girl's family has filed suit against a school district and a bus driver for allegedly putting her in harm's way.Last year the 14-year-old California City girl was found dead in a vacant field near Phillip Ellison's apartment. Ellison is the girl's uncle.Just two months ago, authorities arrested Ellison and charged him with the girl's murder.
Now her family said the Mojave Unified School District and her bus driver are partially responsible for her death.Terry was supposed to be dropped off near a local gas station, but instead her bus driver allegedly began dropping her off behind a secluded mall. The suit claims that was an unauthorized bus stop, which makes the district and the driver partially responsible for the girl's death. The family is asking for unspecified damages.Meanwhile, Ellison will be in court on July 15, where he stands charged with rape and murder.
