BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- While a new study shows moms would make $117,000 per year if paid to take care of their own children, one local mom created a social networking Web site as a support system for moms.A financial study of homemaking was done by salary.com, a Web site that looks at and evaluates workplace compensation. The site found most moms work what's called a hybrid of jobs with 10 different salaries that would comprise a daily routine.
Working moms said on average they put in about 55 hours per week of mommy work besides the hours many of them spend at paying jobs.Whether a stay-at-home mom or with a job on the side, mommy work is never done.Tracey Stone who is a stay-at-home mom said she does everything related to homemaking. Her day begins at 5 a.m. and she is the domestic CEO of the house. Her husband works and brings home the primary income while she is responsible for the affairs of the house. One of her jobs was taking care of the pool but she decided to let that job go. So as far as the $117,000 per year? “I'm worth $75 a month less,” Stone said.Marie Davis is a stay-at-home mom and loves her job, though she didn't always think that way. She said she never thought about being one before she had children.Davis and her husband have made many financial sacrifices for her to be a stay-at-home mom.Davis wouldn’t mind getting paid for the job she does but thinks six figures is a little steep. She said being a mom is payment in itself. “I think we should get a bonus. That would be more accurate,” Davis said.Being a mom is not a job that is an easy task. Moms said compensation would be nice, but the payoff is in the love and support received from family and friends.Stone started a Web site for moms that focus on social networking and support for other moms. She said she’s not the only mom out there and that moms need to connect with other moms. Her Web site, MomeNetwork.com is a local resource that offers a network of activates and supports motherhood.
