BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- About 100 farm workers from Washington and Oregon are finally at work in the fields of Shafter. The workers spent several nights camping near Shafter, sleeping in cars, tents, on the ground and bathing in a drainage ditch. While some are in temporary labor housing, others went back home.
A United Farm Workers representative said some of the workers who spoke with the media were not only evicted, but shunned by other farm workers and returned home. The UFW said the Department of Labor is sending an investigator.
