BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A dispute brewing for the last two weeks at the Municipal Airport between the Bakersfield Police Department and a local motorcycle group appeared to have a resolution Tuesday night.Members of the Bako Boyz group gathered at the Rocket Shop Cafe without incident to socialize and have dinner. That after police and California Highway Patrol officers issued 14 fix-it tickets to riders gathered at the airport last week, and one trespassing citation the week prior. The Bako Boyz as a group said they felt that they were singled out for violations, unlike other motorcycle groups that meet at other dining establishments across Bakersfield.
Wayne Gallagher, one of the group's members, said he spoke with a police lieutenant last week to put any differences aside. The lieutenant told Gallagher that he hoped the riders do not do anything to cause officers to crack down on the gathering again, he said. One police car did enter the cafe parking lot Tuesday night, but officers in the vehicle saw nothing suspicious and left.
