Police: Man Dies Speeding, Crashing Truck Into Cars

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A driver is dead Wednesday night after causing two crashes on Highway 58.

Witnesses said the driver of a Ford truck, 36-year-old Christopher Wayne Sheppard was swerving while heading westbound in and out of traffic at speeds over 100 miles per hour Wednesday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said Sheppard's truck first crashed into a BMW, sending the car over the right shoulder. Sheppard's truck then collided with another car, causing both to overturn.

One witness said he saw the Sheppard's truck speed by him miles before the crash.

Sheppard died at the scene, while the two people in the other cars suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
