BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Thousands of teachers celebrated their careers, and spoke out on their struggles Wednesday night.Local teachers and their families gathered at Yokuts Park Wednesday night for food and fun.It was the “Day of the Teacher” celebration.
But there was a serious message they wanted to get to lawmakers, that budget cuts hurt education. The governor has proposed a new budget that eliminates a massive deficit by selling lottery bonds and cutting billions in state programs. Many local teachers here said that is still not enough.
