Oilfield Worker May Have Succumbed To Heat

POSTED: 6:39 pm PDT May 18, 2008

A worker at an oilfield died Friday night and the extreme heat may be to blame.

Julius Askew, 27, of Bakersfield, was found unconscious around 6 p.m. Friday at the Cymric oil lease in rural McKittrick.

He was airlifted to KMC where he died around 7:20 p.m. Friday.

Askew's body temperature was 108 degrees at the time of his death, according to the coroner's office.

Cal-OSHA is investigating the death. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
