Two Die After Truck Crashes Near Overpass

Two men died in a crash from an overpass onto westbound Highway 58 east of Mt. Vernon Avenue on Monday morning.

According to police, Roman Cordero was driving a truck southbound on Washington Street when he left the roadway, traveled down an overpass embankment into westbound traffic lanes of Highway 58.

Cordero and his passenger, Jose Raymond Garcia, both died when the truck was struck by a big rig, police said. They said the truck driver said he saw a flash and then hit the truck and had no time to make evasive maneuvers.

Westbound Highway 58 was closed, but is now open. Washington Street is currently closed.
