More Tests Needed On Oil Worker Who Died

Former Martial Arts Fighter Found With Body Temperature Of 108 Degrees

The Kern County Coroner's Office said more tests are needed to determine whether a man who collapsed at an oil rig died because of record May temperatures.

The coroner said the autopsy performed on 27-year-old Julius Askew on Monday is pending further investigation and toxicology testing.

The coroner's office said Askew fell unconscious while working on an oil rig at Cymric Oil Lease near McKittrick.

His body temperature at the time of his death was 108 degrees.

He died at Kern Medical Center on Friday night.

According to sherdog.com, Askew was a former mixed martial arts fighter.

He is survived by a 3-year-old son, his mother, grandmother and three sisters.
