SOUTH LAKE, Calif. -- An elderly woman is dead after an early morning fire swept through her home near Lake Isabella.Family and neighbors were in shock Tuesday morning as they stood in front of what remains of 94-year-old Sally Parker’s South Lake home. The fire started just after 3 a.m.
Kern County fire officials said the back apartment attached to the house was fully engulfed by the time they got there and was quickly spreading to the home.Neighbors said Parker's great grandson was staying in the house and was able to get out in time but wasn't able save Parker, who was sleeping in the apartment.Fire officials said about an hour later they discovered Parker's body. Now friends and family are remembering the woman who they said was known for her love of the outdoors. "She was a very active person … too bad she had to go this way," said Bob Word, Parker’s brother-in-law.Neighbor Henry Sullivan said "Sally was a good neighbor.”Officials said the home is a total loss while the cause of the fire is still under investigationNeighbors said Parker's husband died in a 2007 car crash. But the 94-year-old woman was never alone. They said she had family that lived up the street and always had someone staying with her.
