Foundation Helps Deputies' Families Cope

Members of local law enforcement agencies came together today to help out the families of two deputies financially.

Members of the Kern County 999 Foundation presented a check for an undisclosed amount to Amanda Throne, the widow of Deputy James Throne.

He leaves behind three children after being involved in a crash with Deputy Doug Swanson last Friday.

The local organization also gave a check to the family of Swanson to help with his expenses.

They said it can take some time for financial help to kick in. “We stepped up to help out in the beginning months. Sometimes Workman's Comp can take a year to kick in and we want to assist the families and children," said Deputy Bob Hayes, president of the Kern County 999 Foundation.

The group is also holding a fundraiser motorcycle ride for Throne and other officers in September.

The group formed in 2007 to help the families of fallen officers after the death of Deputy Joe Hudnall.

DONATION INFORMATION: Anyone who would like to help may donate in the name of Swanson or Throne to the Kern County 999 Foundation at P.O. Box 228, Bakersfield, CA 93302. Tax I.D: 26-0152206. Interested parties may also call this number: 661-549-2110.
