Once Married To Actor Gregory Peck's Son, Ex-Screenwriter Hoards Pets

A Tehachapi woman's love of dogs has caught the eye of Kern County Animal Control.

Kimi Peck came to Kern County just over two years ago and brought about 180 dogs with her.

She picked Tehachapi she said because Animal Control laws in Kern County allow her to have as many pets as she wants.

Peck ran a Chihuahua rescue facility in Burbank up until two years ago. She ran into some legal problems stemming from being accused of keeping filthy conditions.

Instead of giving up and giving the dogs away, she came to Kern County where she could have as many dogs as she wanted as an individual.

Her home, nestled in the mountains just south of downtown Tehachapi, is literally a dog house. Some of the dogs are in kennel runs, but most of them have run of the house.

Kern County Animal Control has kept close contact with Peck to make sure she is in compliance with the law.

Yet, Peck has run into legal problems. As an individual, she can't adopt out any dog or take donations. Peck's Web site does both.

Peck, who was married to actor Gregory Peck's son and has wrote screenplays for movies, said she loves her animals and will do whatever it takes to abide by the law. She said if there were better spay and neuter laws then she would not have to dedicate her life to rescue.

But not everybody is saying thank you to Peck for rescuing animals. Her neighbor Barbara Tacadina said her life has changed drastically since the dogs have moved in. She said she is at her wit's end, can't sleep and has been put on medication due to the noise of the constant barking.
