Local Marine Seriously Injured In Afghanistan

BEAR VALLEY SPRINGS -- A Tehachapi High School graduate continues to recover in a German hospital after being injured while on patrol in Afghanistan on Monday.Family members said Marine Sgt. Justin Clenard was on foot patrol with his platoon when they were hit by a mortar round or a land mine. Clenard lost his right leg from the knee down and his lower left leg as well. He also suffered shrapnel injuries to his right arm.The family is unsure when he'll return to the U.S., given the severity of his injuries as he is still in critical condition in Germany.
Family members said they spoke with Clenard Wednesday morning and he will undergo surgery on Wednesday.When he's stable enough to travel, Clenard will be moved to Bethesda, Md.Clenard was a 2004 graduate of Tehachapi High School and was on the varsity wrestling team.
