BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The day after a mother was able to save her two-year-old child from the family pool she spoke about the frightening experience.Michelle Mellow said she couldn't beleive it when she saw her son floating in the pool.Wednesday he was playing in the front yard with his brothers and sister showing no ill effects of his fall into the pool, where CPR had to be performed as he wasn't breathing after fallling in.
"We knew CPR and that's probably the only thing that saved us," Mellow said. The Mellows have a fenced-in pool with an auto-latching gate. But the children know how to shake the gate to open it.So, she said while she was working on homeschooling one of her other children, the 2-year-old opened the gate and fell into the pool."I thought there was no way he could open that lock. I thought it was safe. I thought it was OK," Mellow said. She said her older son was able to call 911 and hand the phone over to his sister and then mother. That's when operators instructed her on how to clear his mouth to improve his breathing.
