UPDATED: 8:32 pm PDT July 2, 2008

The Piute fire continues to rage Wednesday morning in the mountains above Lake Isabella.

The fire has consumed more than 13,500 acres and is only 11 percent contained.

Nearly 1,000 firefighters are battling flames in very rugged terrain.

The fire is threatening more than 1,200 structures and at least seven outbuildings have been lost. Most of the threatened homes are summer cabins.

Many communities near Bodfish remain under evacuation orders. People said this year's lack of rain has made for the difficult fire conditions.

People living in Valley View, Red Mountain Estates, Claraville, Rocky Point and Liebel Ranch remain under voluntary evacuation orders.

Now two evacuation centers have been set up. One is at the Lake Isabella Senior Center at 6409 Lake Isabella Boulevard. The other is at the Kern River Valley Senior Center.

Porterville, CA – Fireworks are Banned due to the increasing high fire danger. In response to increasing fire danger throughout the State of California, the Forest Service has announced that it will impose fire restrictions in the Sequoia National Forest and the Giant Sequoia National Monument, until further notice.
