Heat Possibly Claims Worker's Life

Wednesday's scorching temperatures appear to blame for the death of a Delano man.

42-year-old Abdon Felix of Delano spent Wednesday morning and early afternoon working for Sunview Vineyards in Arvin.

According to the coroner's office, while Felix was returning to Delano in a company vehicle, he became unresponsive while the vehicle was on Highway 99 near Lerdo Highway.

According to the California Highway Patrol and Kern County Fire, fire personnel removed Felix from the van and performed CPR until Hall Amublance arrived. County Fire believed at that time that he was suffering from heat stroke.

Felix was taken to Delano Regional Medical Center where he later died.

The coroner says Felix's body core temperature was measured at 108 degrees just 13 minutes before he died.

Felix worked for Sunview Vineyards which is based out of Delano.

This would be the first heat related death of the summer.

The California Highway Patrol and CAL-OSHA are investigating.
