Two Tehachapi men have been charged with setting fire to the historic Tehachapi Train Depot and burning it to the ground.

Jason Watson, 32, and 36-year-old Brian O'Donnell were arraigned in Mojave Superior Court on Thursday on a felony charge of causing the fire and a misdemeanor count of possessing illegal fireworks.

Investigators with the Tehachapi Police Department said the fire on June 13 was started by an illegal firework that had become lodged under the building's platform.

The fire then burned through the floor and consumed the building.

The depot was rebuilt in 1904 after a fire destroyed the original structure that was built in the 1880s.

A preliminary hearing is set for later next month.

The fire caused $1 million dollars in damage.
