Investigators Say 30 Stolen From Vehicles In Last Several Weeks

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bakersfield police are reporting an increase in the thefts of catalytic converters.Police said 30 converters were reported stolen from vehicles over the past three weeks.The devices are used to convert pollutants in vehicle exhaust into harmless compounds.
Police said the converters are prized by thieves because they contain platinum and other precious metals.
