Truck Driver Killed After Dirt Embankment Crash

POSTED: 10:42 pm PDT August 13, 2008

Emergency crews had to lower themselves down a steep embankment Wednesday after a cement truck driver went off the road and crashed.

It happened early in the morning near Round Mountain Road.

The California Highway Patrol says 26-year old Charlie Mathis Junior was heading east on a dirt road, when his right tire went off the road.

The weight of the truck made it roll down a steep embankment, which caused a dirt avalanche that trapped Mathis in the cab.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
