BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Investigators said the body of a woman was discovered in the Kern River Canyon Friday afternoon.Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Office said a group of rafters found the body against some rocks in the river at about 1 p.m., ABC23 reported. It took the sheriff's search and rescue team several hours to lift the woman out of the Kern River. Detectives said injuries on her body were suspicious in nature and that they believe she was the victim of a homicide and not killed by rapids themselves.
Deputies said the woman had no identification, but they believe she is Hispanic and in her 20s or 30s.Investigators said they are not sure how the woman ended up in the rocks near Delonegha Hot Springs -- about 10 miles southwest of Lake Isabella. The area where she was found is surrounded by rugged and inaccessible terrain. No recent drowning victims in the river matched the victim's description, deputies said.Investigators said they will be cross-checking missing person's reports to try to identify the woman.
