2 Arrested In Rosedale Stabbing

Security Guard Stabbed During Brawl

Two men have been arrested in connection with a stabbing at a popular Rosedale restaurant.

The Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery on Calloway is the new hangout in the northwest. The restaurant is normally packed with people on weekend nights.

According to police, good times turned bad on Saturday, however, after two men got in a fight with security guards.

Police said 23-year-old Ramon Tapia pulled out a knife and sliced the security guard on the arm. Tapia was arrested and has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and public intoxication.

Police have not released the name of the other man who was arrested.

Ben Martins, the manager of The Tilted Kilt, said the two men were asked to leave after they harassed an employee.

"We do everything we can to protect our staff,” said Martins. "We had the gentlemen come outside. [Tapia] got into an altercation with one of security staff, he decided he had to pull a knife and one of my security members got hurt."

Martins said the security guard was not seriously injured and was back to work the next day.

There is a residential neighborhood just north of the restaurant. Reactions to the stabbing have been mixed.

One neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said the stabbing did not surprise her and said that she has called the police numerous times to report loud music and rowdiness in the area.

Resident Chad Courson said he was surprised by the level of violence.

"They like to have their loud music, but it's fine here and there," said Courson. “They have fights. The stabbing, I heard this morning, which was a shock."

Mark Palmer, a resident in the area, said the incident hasn’t bothered him.

"It hasn't affected me," Palmer said. "As soon as it starts to affect my life or problems in the neighborhood I might have a change of heart in the matter."

Despite the recent attention, police said the restaurant is not a problem area.

"I think it's only been open about six weeks," said Sgt. Greg Terry with the Bakersfield Police Department. "I think this was our tenth response to the business. At this point, not an unusual number of calls given the type of establishment."
