BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bakersfield police said they believe Stanley Allen Tomlin, 38, of Bakersfield, is the man behind two recent kidnappings. Those two kidnappings happened only a half-mile apart in what police are calling a spot that Tomlin liked to frequent.Tomlin was already in custody for the attempted kidnapping of a 7-month-old baby girl on Oct. 21 in the 500 block of K Street.Late Monday afternoon, following what officials called a tireless effort by their department, investigators also connected Tomlin to the burglary and kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl from the 500 block of Wallace Street.
Authorities said the girl suffered minor injuries during the incident on Oct. 18.Bakersfield Police Sgt. Joe Aldana on Monday said the central Bakersfield community where the near-abductions took place is breathing a sigh of relief."The community aspect is vital," Aldana said. "We want the community to know that the BPD has been working very hard on this case. Detectives have worked so hard to make this case against Tomlin. We just want everyone to know that their neighborhood is safe."Aldana went on to say Tomlin had no previous convictions.Authorities are calling this two random attempts and have no motive for why Tomlin targeted the half-mile area of central Bakersfield.
