BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The man who said he was allegedly assaulted by Kern High School trustee and Yes on Prop. 8 leader Ken Mettler during a Prop. 8 rally plans to press charges. Rob Badewitz said he suffered facial contusions and went to the doctor after Friday's scuffle on the corner of Stockdale Highway and California Avenue. A No on 8 demonstrator caught the whole incident on tape, which Mettler said may have been altered."Looking at the video, I'm just a lay person, but other people have looked at it and I've read the comments from experts in videography. They think it was altered before it was given out to the media. There seems to be a second or two missing," said Mettler.ABC 23 obtained the video about an hour and a half after the incident. The station was unable to contact the person who shot the video to get their reaction to Mettler's accusations.
"It happened very quickly, I saw a punch coming at me. They were screaming that they would do physical harm to me, so I went and moved backwards and I did defend myself so I could exit the area," said Mettler.Mettler also said he regrets the incident and hopes both sides learn from it."I am a big believer on ideas and a good debate about issues and supporting democracy. I can assure you that if somebody came over to the Yes on 8 side to retrieve some of the materials they would hopefully be treated with courtesy and be assisted retrieving their materials," said Mettler.
