Sunday morning, a 33-year-old Bakersfield man was driving East on Round Mountain Road. Beau Adams failed to negotiate a turn, drove off the road and plunged 100 feet into a tree. He was ejected from the truck and landed in the Kern County River.

California Highway Patrol said that Adams was not wearing a seat belt.

Bakersfield Fire Department rescuers pulled Adams from the water and began CPR on him. He was taken to Kern Medical Center with major medical injuries and later died. A toxicology exam will be performed to determine if drugs played a role in the crash.
