Family Life Center Providing Education To Parents

While many expecting and new parents feel like they have nowhere to turn for support and guidance, the Family Life Center of Tehachapi is making sure no one goes without the help, support and education they need.

The Family Life Center of Tehachapi has been in the community for over 18 years, and during this year alone, the center has had more than 1,200 client visits.

From free and confidential pregnancy tests to counseling to child birth classes, this nonprofit organization nearly does it all.

With 29 trained volunteers, the center is able to provide education and counseling to parents.

Parents are also able to participate in the centers “Earn While you Learn” program.

While learning about parenting and life skills, participants are able to earn points and spend them at the center's boutique.

The boutique has everything from maternity clothes to rocking chairs to diapers.

Executive Director Kim Nixon said, “There are a lot of ways for them to accumulate points so that by the time their baby is born, they have everything that they need to bring that baby home from the hospital.”

Parents can also earn points simply by going to their scheduled doctor visits.

Nixon said the center is able to educate and provide resources to parents all the way from the pregnancy test to the child reaching 2 years old.

All the services provided by the center are free and confidential.

If you would like more information on the center or to learn how you can help out, you can visit their Web site at www.familylifepc.org.
