BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- On Friday, the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint in the Greater Bakersfield area. The BPD issued a release about the upcoming enforcement. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is in an effort to reduce the number of persons injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions, as well as insuring motorists on city streets are in possession of a valid driver’ s license.
A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.Funding for this program was provided by a grant for the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If you are found at a checkpoint, or anywhere, to be under the influence or without a driver's license, you can face a citation, having your driver's license suspended, car impounded or even jail time. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
