BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Cynthia Gudger was back in court Thursday morning for a competency hearing. The hearing was postponed because the doctors have not completed her psychological evaluation, but Gudger didn’t let that stop her from bursting out.During the case, Gudger exclaimed that her animals had been killed and that she begged the court to not execute them.
Michael Yraceburn, Dep. District Attorney said, “After the animals were not claimed, after the administrative hearing, the animals have either gone to foster homes or, due to illness, they've been euthanized."Gudger faces 10 counts of animal cruelty after she was found living with dozens of sick and dead animals in Tehachapi.Guy Shaw, the director at the Kern County Animal Shelter, confirmed that 10 dogs were euthanized because they were tempermental and that eight were rescued. Shaw also said 10 of her cats were euthanized for their temperament, 12 were rescued and three cats remain in the shelter to be adopted.Shaw said, “The numbers don't reflect the other cats and dogs that were euthanized almost immediately by veterinarians because they were so ill the day they were taken from Gudger's home.”Gudger is due back in court, Feb. 9.
