BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Bakersfield police responded to a family disturbance call on the 4000 block of Maize Court.

Upon arrival, the Bakersfield Police Department stated that Rodolfo Lepe ran into a home and barricaded himself in a closet.

While officers pulled Lepe from the closet, Lepe became very combative, the BPD reported.

Officers then used two Tasers and attempted to put Lepe into custody.

A struggle ensued, Lepe bit one officer, and officers were able to subdue Lepe, but BPD reported that Lepe was not breathing and transported him to Mercy Hospital.

Lepe died at 7:45 p.m. at Mercy Hospital.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon to determine the cause of death.
